Discovering the Charm of Fort Bazaar: Your Gateway to the Heart of Galle Fort

Imagine leaving the sun of southern Sri Lanka behind and walking into a cool white building where the air smells like cinnamon and fresh coffee. This is what you will find at Fort Bazaar By Teardrop Hotels, a seventeen-room hotel that shows you what luxury by the sea is all about. The hotel is in a building on Church Street that has been fixed up perfectly. It does not have the dark old furniture that you find in other old hotels. Instead it has an happy feel to it with colors and designs that remind you of the Middle East. You will see tiles on the floor high archways and comfy sofas that are the color of coral.

The way the hotelĀ  laid out makes you feel like you are in a house, not a hotel. The rooms are around a courtyard with cobblestone streets. This is where people hang out and talk to each other. You can choose to stay in a room or a big suite with a balcony that looks out over the old roofs of the fort. When it starts to get dark the courtyard is a place to have a cup of tea and some cake. Later you can have a drink. Talk to other travelers while the sun sets over the ocean.

If you like food you will love the hotel restaurant, Church Street Social. It serves a mix of Sri Lankan food and food from around the world. In the morning you can have a breakfast on the veranda with things like egg hoppers and smoothies made from papaya. At night the restaurant is a place with candles and good food. One of the things on the menu is the Jaffna mud crab curry, which is a classic Sri Lankan dish. You should have it with a glass of wine from the hotels own cellar.

When you walk out of the hotel you are in the streets of Galle Fort, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can walk around. See art galleries, shops that sell gems and old landmarks like the Dutch Reformed Church. If you follow the smell of the sea you will come to the Galle Lighthouse, which’s a famous landmark. Every evening people gather on the walls of the fort to fly kites eat street food and watch the sun set over the ocean.

The hotel is a place to stay if you want to explore the area. You can take a ride in a tuk-tuk to get to Unawatuna Beach or take a boat down the Mahamodara River to see animals like monitor lizards and monkeys. If you are feeling adventurous the hotel can arrange for you to go whale watching or trekking in a cinnamon estate. No matter what you do it is always nice to come to the cool and peaceful hotel.

If you want to know more, about Fort Bazaar hotel , like the prices of the rooms or what to do when it is monsoon season just let me know. I can also help you arrange to get picked up from the airport.
