The rare Sri Lankan sloth bear is one of the parks sought-after animals. During the fruiting season especially when palu fruits are abundant visitors have a chance of seeing these shy bears searching for food.

Sri Lankan Elephant

Although elephant populations are smaller than in parks such as Udawalawe visitors regularly encounter elephants feeding near forests and waterholes.

Spotted Deer

Sambar Deer

Wilpattu National Park is open all year round. However sometimes the roads can be bad because of rain.

Safari Options

You can go on a safari that lasts for half a day or a whole day. These safaris are led by guides who know what they are doing.

Morning safaris start early. It is cooler in the morning. The animals are more active.

If you go on a safari in the evening you will see the golden light. You will also have a chance to see the wildlife before the sun sets.

If you go on a full-day safari you can go deeper into the park. This means you might see animals that’re very rare.
