A Hidden Village in the High Central Highlands

Mandaram Nuwara is a beautiful small village. It is located in the Nuwara Eliya District of the Central Province in Sri Lanka. This village is very high up. Over one thousand meters above sea level. It is right at the foot of Pidurutalagala Mountain. This mountain is the one in Sri Lanka. The village is surrounded by mountains. This means the sun does not shine directly on the village for most of the day. The sun rises late. Sets very early for the people who live in Mandaram Nuwara.

Mandaram Nuwara is in a location. It is like a dead end. This is where the village ends and the wilderness begins. The village is close to the Pidurutalagala Forest Reserve on one side. On the side it is close to the Balagolla mountain range. This creates a climate. It is cool and humid. It rains a lot. The valley is often covered in fog. This is why people call Mandaram Nuwara the Misty City. 

Transit Routes from Major Mountain Cities

To get to MandaramNuwara you have to drive on roads. These roads go through the mountains. If you are coming from Kandy you can go to Walapane. Then you turn before Padiyapelella. This road takes you to Mandaram Nuwara. You can also come from Nuwara Eliya. You can take the Uda Pussellawa highway. Then you connect to the Padiyapelella road.

Practical Considerations for Journey Planning

Mandaram Nuwara is away from the city. You have to plan before you go. The road to Mandaram Nuwara is very steep. You need a vehicle to drive on this road. There are no banks, in the village. You have to carry cash with you. Your phone may not work well in the village. The mountains block the signal. This means you can disconnect from the rest of the world
