Historic Sunrise Peak

Lipton’s Seat is one of the famous places to look out from in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It is very high above the town of Haputale. This place is two thousand meters above sea level. It  named after Sir Thomas Lipton, the known Scottish tea businessman used this place to look over his large area of land. There is a statue make of bronze that is the same size as a real person. The statue of Sir Lipton is sitting on a bench at the top. People who come from over the world come here to see the same amazing views that he saw. 

Panoramic Mountain Views in lipton’s seat 

The top has a wide view of the green mountain areas. On clear mornings the view can seen across seven different parts of the island. There are paths that go through green and carefully kept tea plants that cover the hills. The steep sides have drops that show faraway valleys covered in mist, bright lakes and small villages on the hills. There is a simple tea shop at the top where they serve hot Ceylon tea with spicy local snacks. 

Planning Your Journey of lipton’s seat 

Getting before seven in the morning gives the best chance of seeing the view clearly without anything blocking it. Thick white fog comes in by the middle of the morning. Covers the whole valley below. People can take a tuk-tuk from Haputale town or walk up through the beautiful Dambatenne Tea Estate. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority recommends the months from January to April for the best time to walk. There is a cost to enter the place to keep the top area clean and nice. 

Tea Estate Exploration

The way down the mountain gives a good chance to see how the local tea is made. People walking often see workers picking leaves from the hills. The old Dambatenne Tea Factory is near the bottom of the hill. Lets people go inside to learn about how tea is made. Going inside shows the machines from the colonial times that make famous Ceylon tea. Combining the top of the mountain with a visit to the factory makes the trip, in the highlands.
