An Amazing Old Building

Lion Rock Sri Lanka is a cool old place that shows how good the people of ancient Sri Lanka were at planning cities and building things. The building is a mix of nature and what people can do with a palace built right into a huge rock. King Kashyapa made this rock into a strong fortress with moats and walls all around it. This big plan shows how smart the people were then and how good they were at protecting themselves.

The Beautiful Gardens Around the Palace

The area around the rock has some of the gardens in the world. When you visit you walk through the Water Gardens first which have a lot of pools and fountains and special underground systems to make them work. Then you see the Boulder Gardens and the Terraced Gardens, which show how the old builders used rocks to make walkways and lookouts. Walking through these gardens makes you feel like you are living like a king.

The Strange Mirror Wall

One of the things about climbing the rock is the shiny wall that goes along the side of the cliff. This wall was made with a mix of lime and egg white and honey and it is so shiny that King Kashyapa could see himself in it. Over time people from around the world wrote poems on this wall, which is now called the Sigiriya Graffiti. These old poems say how much people loved the beauty of the mountain and the paintings they saw.

Tips for a Great Visit

To have a time at Lions Rock you need to plan a little bit. You should buy your tickets online or get to the ticket office early so you do not have to wait in line. You should also bring a lot of water wear a hat and put on sunscreen so you do not get too hot.. As well as You should be quiet because there are wasp nests, on the rock and you do not want to bother them. Lions Rock is a cool place and if you plan ahead you can have a great time.
