Sri Lanka is a beautiful place with lots of delicious fruits. They have kinds of fruits like mangoes and bananas. The mangoes in Sri Lanka are very sweet. The bananas are very good to eat. They also have jackfruits that are full of fiber and little mangosteens that people love to eat. Sri Lanka grows than 100 different types of fruits. You can drink coconut water on the side of the road or try some spicy fruit pickles at a busy market. Trying all the fruits, in Sri Lanka is a fun thing to do and it is a big part of the countrys food culture. Sri Lanka fruits are really something and people love to eat them.

Banana 

Bananas, which people in Sri Lanka call kesel are an important food in Sri Lanka. People eat them every day. They are also used in special ceremonies. In countries you usually only find one kind of banana but in Sri Lanka they grow almost 30 different types. There is the Ambul banana which’s creamy and a little sour the Seeni banana which is good, for you and the big Anamalu banana. Bananas mean luck so people often serve them with milk rice, which is called kiribath when they are celebrating something special. They also put bananas in front of the gods when they are praying.

Sri Lankan food is very clever because it uses every part of the banana plant. They take the bananas and make them into curries and they use the banana blossom, which is called kesel muwa to make spicy mallums that are crispy.

From June to August you can see lots of red Rambutan fruits on the side of the road. They have a skin that is a little bit hairy but you can easily peel it off with your fingers. Inside the fruit is white and juicy. It tastes really sweet. People who sell the fruits make piles of them on the side of the road so you will want to stop and buy some.

The Hidden Secrets of Woodapple and Soursop

Sri Lanka has some cool fruits that are good for you like the Woodapple. It looks like a grey ball but inside it is soft and brown. People like to mix it with coconut milk and make a smoothie. Another fruit that is good for you is the Soursop, which is also called Anona. It has a skin and a soft inside and it tastes like a mix of strawberry, pineapple and citrus.

Finding Fresh Papaya and Guava Year-Round

Some fruits in Sri Lanka are only available at times of the year but you can always find Papaya and Guava. They are really yummy. Grow all over the island. Sri Lankan papayas are really big and sweet. People like to eat them for breakfast. There are two kinds of Guava one with white and one, with pink inside. People like to slice them up and add some chili powder and salt to make a snack.
