Lipton’s Seat is a famous spot in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It is high above the town of Haputale. Lipton’s Seat is two thousand meters above sea level. This place is special because it is where Sir Thomas Lipton used to come to look at his tea farms. Sir Thomas Lipton was a tea farmer who was very important. Panoramic Mountain Views
The view from Lipton’s Seat is really amazing. You can see for three hundred and sixty degrees. On mornings you can see a very long way. You can even see seven parts of Sri Lanka. There are paths that wind through the tea bushes. The tea bushes are very green. They cover the steep hills. If you look down you can see valleys and lakes and little villages. It is very pretty. There is a tea shop at Lipton’s Seat. They sell hot Ceylon tea and spicy snacks.
Planning Your Journey
If you want to see a view you should get to Lipton’s Seat before seven in the morning. After that the mist comes in. You cannot see very far. You can get to Lipton’s Seat by taking a tuk-tuk from Haputale town. As well as You can also walk up through the Dambatenne Tea Estate. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority says that the best time to visit is from January to April. That is when the weather is dry and it is easy to walk. You have to pay a fee to get into Lipton’s Seat.
Tea Estate Exploration
When you are walking back down the mountain you can see how tea is made. You can see the tea pluckers picking tea leaves. The Dambatenne Tea Factory is near the bottom of the hill. You can go inside. Learn about how tea is made. They have machines that are very interesting. If you go to Lipton’s Seat and then visit the tea factory you will have a great time. You will learn a lot, about Sri Lanka and its tea. Lipton’s Seat and the tea factory are a combination.
