Kandy is a place that’s really high up above the flat areas. Near the ocean and it is cover in a mist that makes everything feel soft and quiet. This is where the last kings of Sri Lanka lived. Kandy is not a place you can just rush through. You have to take your time and really look around to see how special it is. The city is full of the sounds of temple bells ringing . The smell of flowers and the trees and plants are around you. The Kandy House is a place to stay. It is very quiet and peaceful and it is like staying in a piece of history.
The History of The Kandy House
A time ago The Kandy House built someone important who work for the king. It was a deal because it had two floors and a special roof, which was only allowed for the kings houses. Now The Kandy House is an example of a type of architecture called walauwa it has thick walls, big wooden areas and a courtyard in the middle that lets in the breeze. Inside it does not look like a hotel it has old things from Sri Lanka and the floors made of concrete and there are bright colors everywhere.
Taking It Easy at The Kandy House
Life at The Kandy House is very slow and peaceful it makes you want to forget about your life. In the morning you can hear the monks chanting. Then you can have a big breakfast on the terrace. The grounds are like a garden, with birds and monkeys. You can spend the afternoon by the pool, which looks out over the fields and it makes you feel like you are in a world.
Exploring Kandy
If you go outside The Kandy House you can see how important Kandy is for Sri Lankan culture. There is a temple where people go to pray and they bring flowers as offerings. There are also gardens with a huge tree that looks like a work of art. If you go to the villages near Kandy you can see people making things like brass objects, pots and wood carvings.
The Best Time to Visit
The time to come to Kandy is from January to April the weather is nice and cool. You can get to Kandy by car or, by train, which goes through the mountains and is very scenic. When you are sitting on the veranda drinking tea and watching the sun go down you will feel like you are really connect to Sri Lanka.
