Ceylon tea factories and estates are really famous in Sri Lanka. They are mostly found in the central highlands like Nuwara Eliya, Kandy and Ella. When you visit a Ceylon tea factory you get to see how Ceylon tea is made from start to finish. From picking the leaves and drying them to rolling and packing the Ceylon tea. You also get to taste some Ceylon tea.

Here are some popular Ceylon tea factories and experiences you can visit:

## 1. Nuwara Eliya Region (High Grown Tea)

This place is known for making the Ceylon tea, which is called the “Champagne of Teas” because it is grown at high altitude and in a cool climate.

* Damro Labookellie Tea Lounge: This is one of the oldest and biggest Ceylon tea estates in Sri Lanka. They give you a tour of the Ceylon tea factory and a free cup of Ceylon tea. You can see the hills from there.

* Pedro Tea. Factory: This Ceylon tea estate is near Nuwara Eliya town. Makes a light and delicate Ceylon tea. You can walk through the paths of the Ceylon tea estate. Go to the nearby Lovers Leap waterfall.

* Bluefield Tea Factory: This Ceylon tea factory is in Ramboda. Is a great place to visit with your family. They show you how to pick Ceylon tea leaves and have a shop where you can buy things.

## 2. Kandy Region (Mid Grown Tea)

* Ceylon Tea Museum (Hantana): This museum is in a Ceylon tea factory from 1925 just outside Kandy city. It has machines and exhibits about people who started the Ceylon tea industry like James Taylor. There is a tea room on the top floor.

## 3. Ella & Uva Region

* Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory: This Ceylon tea factory is on a hill near Ella. Gives you a great tour of how they make Ceylon tea today. They have a cafe with a view of the valley.
