The Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya Kandy is Sri Lankas garden. It covers 147 acres. Has over 4,000 types of plants.

* The Orchid House: This place has over 300 types of orchids. You can see some ones that are only found here.
* Giant Javan Fig Tree: On the Great Lawn there’s a tree that covers 2,500 square meters. It’s a spot for taking pictures.
* Cannonball Avenue: This path is lined with trees that have round fruits. They look like cannonballs.
* The Suspension Bridge: This bridge crosses the Mahaweli River. It’s at the edge of the garden. Sometimes its closed for safety reasons.
* Palm Avenues: There are three paths lined with types of palm trees.
## Getting There
The gardens are 5.5 km west of Kandy city.
* Tuk-Tuk: This is the way to get here from Kandy. It takes 15 to 20 minutes.
* Bus: Take any bus going to Colombo or Piligathalawa from the Kandy clock tower bus station.
* Train: Get off at Peradeniya Junction. It’s a walk or a quick tuk-tuk ride to the garden.
## Pro Tips
* Hire a Buggy: If you have trouble walking or are short on time you can rent golf carts near the entrance.
* Pack Light: It gets humid here. Bring water and an umbrella because it can rain in the afternoons.
* Wildlife: Look up! You might see thousands of fruit bats hanging from the trees.. Keep an eye out for monkeys on the paths.
